Revisiting College After 33 Years Taught Me Life Changing Lessons
Suggestion: Get your schoolmates together and make that trip back to school!
Ever Made That Trip Back to Your School or College?
Last week, about 10 of us, high school mates, reunited at our engineering college, together with our spouses, visiting the campus after 33 years.
Most of us were classmates in high school (continued through bachelor’s degree) and then split, went our separate ways in life. Now we are all in our 54-56+ years.
We went to our classrooms, our hostels, the cricket grounds, the parks around the college, the restaurants, the movie theaters we used to haunt, the dhabas we ate in after the hostel kitchen shut down..
All of us came from normal middle-class families with barely any privileges -some of us with educational loans to get through the bachelor's degree programs.
All of us were unsure where the future would lead us, no preferences in terms of jobs -all we wanted was some job and a salary to pay off our college loans.
Mostly broke or with little to spare, we still had the time of our lives those days -many of those stories we reminisced on this trip.
One of my roommates is now a vice chancellor of a university, another is CEO of a big tech corporation, three of us are entrepreneurs, one a brand manager with a retail company, another is a consultant…and so on.
This trip gave me an incredible perspective, so powerful that I had to share this.
“This journey reminded me why I now help people rediscover their purpose. You don’t have to have it all figured out at 22. What matters is what you build today.”
🎥 Here’s a short video I made from that magical reunion, with some photos from our campus trip:
In one line, your life’s journey is yours alone - it is as unique as you. Keep it that way, please. Own it. It is precious. Do not compare, aim, or try to be someone or better than another.
What I learned:
Accept yourself, groom your dreams, and work towards them.
Allow life to happen. At a time it chooses.
Its beauty is in its uniqueness. Life is designed that way.
Your journey will be as unique as you. Enjoy it
And share it with the world.
